COMET3 is the first commercial coalbed methane reservoir numerical simulation software developed by American International Advanced Energy Company. It is widely used in coalbed methane development and numerical simulation of CO2 flooding gas reservoirs. COMET3 uses a finite difference method to simulate a coalbed methane reservoir in three dimensions. It is a three-component, two-phase, single-hole, two-hole or three-porosity simulator that can be used to simulate gas-water two-phase flow controlled by analytical action. The software can accurately invert the natural gas ground drainage process in coal reservoirs and shale reservoirs according to the actual parameters of the project drainage. The simulation results have certain guiding significance for guiding practical engineering applications.
The COMET3 software is mainly based on the ideal model of fractured media. The software system is dual-porosity reservoir simulation under normal operating conditions. At the same time, in order to more comprehensively invert the process of gas adsorption, desorption, diffusion and seepage in coal reservoirs and shale reservoirs, the software also adds variable parameters such as seepage porosity and permeability according to the actual geological features. Three-pore and double-permeability structural formation simulation conditions.
The COMET3 simulation platform is mainly composed of three basic functional units: basic data editing module, result editing module, and COMET3 software editor. Among them, the basic data editing module and the result editing module mainly comprise 17 basic data input windows, which are mainly used to describe the setting of the relevant reservoir related geological parameters and the basic experimental conditions. For example, reservoir permeability characteristics, pressure characteristics, temperature characteristics, adsorption and compression coefficients, pore fracture characteristics, reservoir water content characteristics, results output and other specific parameters of the setting window. As the core of the software, the COMET3 software editor can solve most of the computational functions including the gas-water two-phase flow equation through the software built-in solution.
